University of Science & Technology Meghalaya
"The volume of information alone cannot make a complete individual — USTM offers scope to develop into an individual complete in all respects."
Professor (Dr.) Gauri Dutt Sharma is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM). A distinguished academician and administrator, Prof. Sharma brings extensive experience in higher education, research, and institutional leadership to USTM. Under his guidance, USTM has grown into a vibrant multicultural university attracting students from across all eight states of North East India.
Prof. Sharma believes that higher education must go beyond information delivery. Drawing on Swami Vivekananda's wisdom — "If education is identified with information, the libraries are the greatest sages in the world" — he champions a holistic educational model that nurtures students intellectually, socially, and personally.
Under his leadership, USTM follows the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) with an outcome-based approach, ensuring the curriculum remains dynamic and aligned with the evolving demands of industry and society.
Prof. Sharma's vision for USTM centres on three pillars: accessibility, quality, and inclusivity. Recognising that North East India faces unique socio-economic challenges, he has steered the university to become a platform that bridges the gap between aspiration and opportunity for thousands of students.
His emphasis on cross-cultural exchange, collaborative research, and industry partnerships has transformed USTM into a destination for higher education, teaching, and research across the region.
