The Anti Ragging Committee of University of Science & Technology Meghalaya has been reconstituted
as per the guidelines of UGC to ensure a safe and inclusive campus environment for all students.
USTM is committed to maintaining a campus free from ragging, harassment, and discrimination. Ragging in
any form — physical, psychological, verbal, or through social media — is strictly prohibited and punishable
under UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009.
What Constitutes Ragging?
- Any act that causes physical or psychological harm or distress to a student.
- Any act of personal ridicule, indecency or obscene gestures towards a student.
- Asking students to do an act which such a student will not do in the ordinary course.
- Any act of financial extortion or wrongful confinement.
- Any act of abuse through electronic media including mobile phones, social media, etc.
Penalties for Ragging
- Cancellation of admission.
- Suspension from attending classes or rustication from the institution.
- Withholding results or degrees.
- Debarring from appearing in examinations or other evaluations.
- Criminal proceedings under applicable law.
How to Report
Any incident of ragging must be immediately reported to:
- The Anti-Ragging Committee of the University
- The Dean of Students / Proctor
- Any faculty member or hostel warden
